It was a memorable day for Team Bahrain at the IMMAF World Championships, an MMA amateur competition that is being held in Abu Dhabi this year.
Thirteen fighters from the kingdom’s squad have made their way to the semi-finals, guaranteeing that all the winners from yesterday’s bouts will receive a medal.
Defending champions Sabrina Sousa, Pasha Kharkhachaev and Ramazan Gitinov will look for a place in the final today, and a shot at retaining the world title in their respective weight-classes and add three more gold medals for Team Bahrain.
They will be joined by 10 others, namely Rasul Magomedov, Aieza Ramos, Murad Ibragimov, Mohamed Alsameea, Fabiola Silva, Beatriz Consuli, Raiane Guimaraes, Gimbat Magomedov, Kurban Idrisov and Sultan Omarov.
The 13 fighters will have the opportunity to fight for a gold medal, provided they continue their winning runs - and in case any of them lose, they are guaranteed a bronze medal.
