Author: Cassandra Clare
Lady Midnight is the first instalment of the The Dark Artifices, a new series written by Cassandra Clare.
It is a companion trilogy to Mortal Instruments and will not disappoint the legions of fans who have read Clare’s young adult fantasy novels.
Lady Midnight immerses the reader in a world where everyday humans are unknowingly protected from demons, vampires, and werewolves by a group of half-angel half-human warriors.
The two star characters, Emma and Julian, are known as parabatai, two warriors who have sworn an oath to forever be loyal to one another.
Together, they seek to find the truth behind what really happened when her parents died.
The further they investigate, the more dangerous things become.
From the very beginning of the novel, Clare gets the reader to ask questions, building great anticipation and creating a book that is difficult to put down. Action scenes are vivid and captivating and the story flows, meaning there is rarely a dull moment.
Clare’s character creation and build-up is really where this novel shines, as she encourages the reader to be emotionally invested in them.
Although targeted at teenagers and young adults, this book is really a great read for anyone who is a fan of action, fantasy and romance.
Having never read Clare’s previous series I was concerned that it would affect my enjoyment of the story.
However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was engrossed in Lady Midnight and by the end of the book has left me looking forward to the release of the next instalment in the series.
Lady Midnight can be purchased from Jashanmal in City Centre Bahrain or Seef Mall for BD8.
