His Majesty King Hamad’s representative for humanitarian work and youth affairs and Royal Endurance Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa will lead the team in the 160 kilometre race of the Montalcino International Endurance Championship in Italy today.
Shaikh Nasser said that the team is proceeding according to plans and its goal is to continue confirming the team’s position in the European arena. He added that the Montalcino event will be a great stop for the team in their preparation for the next World Championship.
“We have many goals that we will seek to meet in the Montalcino International Endurance Championship. We are eyeing new achievements for the Bahraini endurance sport and also aim to promote Bahrain through the kingdom’s presence in various international forums.”
Shaikh Nasser stressed on the care and interest that the equestrian sport enjoys in Bahrain. He said that His Majesty’s support to the sport has contributed to the Royal Endurance Team’s outstanding performances in international events. He also praised the backing of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Shaikh Nasser yesterday followed the veterinary examination of the championship along with Supreme Council for the Environment vice-president and Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club deputy chairman Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa.
Shaikh Nasser also participated in the weigh-in process and met the riders after the veterinary examination.
The Royal Endurance Team will take part in the 160km race, the 120km race for general public, the 120km race for juniors and the 100km race for juniors.
Young jockey Shaikh Isa bin Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Isa Al Anzi, Mohammed Al Bastaki, Nasser Al Qahtani, Salman Isa, Youssef Al Jubouri, Khalifa Jamal and Khalifa Sabt will participate in the 120km race for general public. Abdullah Al Ruwaie will take part in the 120km race for juniors while Abdulrahman Khalid will compete in the 100km race for juniors.
