Bahrain is all set to host the Seventh Asian Junior Handball Championship from Saturday to September 5 at Khalifa Sports City Hall in Isa Town.
Eight teams will compete for two qualifying berths (the finalists going through) in the upcoming World Junior Handball Championship to be held in Georgia in 2017.
The teams are divided into two groups, with Bahrain in Group ‘A’ along with Japan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Hong Kong while South Korea are in Group ‘B’ with Qatar, Iran, China and Uzbekistan.
Teams have started arriving in Bahrain with the Iraqi delegation first to land here last week. They were followed by South Korea and Iran who arrived yesterday. All other teams are expected today.
Preparations
The organising committee are accommodating South Korea, Iran, Japan, China, Uzbekistan and Hong Kong at Ibis Hotel while the remaining teams are staying at S Hotel.
Meanwhile, the Bahrain national junior handball team continued their preparations under national coach Ibrahim Abbas. The team drew with South Korea 22-22 and beat Iraq 31-19 in friendly clashes.
