BAHRAIN swimmers finished second overall in the junior section of the 26th GCC Water Sports Championship in Dammam.
Bahrain collected a total of 43 medals, including 28 in the juniors section.
Qatar claimed first place among the juniors with 39 medals while Saudi Arabia were third with 28, Oman fourth with 15 and the UAE fifth with 19.
UAE claimed first place and the GCC title in the seniors category with a total of 19 medals. Saudi Arabia were second with six, Oman third and Bahrain fourth.
In the Under-10 category, Qatar finished first, Bahrain second and Saudi Arabia third.
On the last day on Saturday night, Bahrain claimed six medals, three gold and three silver.
Gold
The first gold was won by Abdulrahman Mubarak in the 100m backstroke (13-14 years age group) in 1:08.19 seconds. Hassan Al Obaidan of Qatar and Ali Al Isa of Saudi Arabia were second and third respectively.
Ali Darraj won Bahrain’s second gold in the 50m backstroke (for 11-12 years age group) in 38.88 seconds. Qatar’s Noor Khaidashi finished second and his teammate Yousif Al Khelaifi third.
The third gold was won Bahrain’s 100x4 mixed team (13-14 years age group) in 4:29.43 seconds. Bahrain team members were Sanad Isa, Abdulla Khalid, Abdulrahman Mubarak and Abdulla Isa. Saudi Arabia were second and Qatar third.
Bahrain’s first silver medal was claimed by Ali Sadiq Al Alawi in the 200m freestyle (11-12 years age group) in 2:19.55 seconds. Qatar’s Mohammed Hussain finished first and Oman’s Ammar Al Waheebi third.
The second silver came through Ahmed Abdulnabi in the 200m backstroke (11-12 years age group) in 1:17.05 seconds. The race was won by Oman’s Muhannad Awlad while Qatar’s Abdulaziz Al Muhannadi finished third.
Bahrain team won the third silver in the 100x4m mixed race (11-12 years age group) in 5:04.98 seconds. Qatar finished first and Oman third.
Bahrain team members were Ahmed Abdulnabi, Ali Darraj, Khalid Al Ruwaie and Ahmed Al Alawi.
President of Bahrain Swimming Association and head of the Bahrain delegation in Dammam Shaikh Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa hailed the historic achievement and thanked Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his support and encouragement.
