Doha: Ten food outlets were closed in Doha in August over poor hygiene.
The Doha Municipality officials conducted spot-checks of cafes and restaurants to ensure food quality is maintained.
They issued notices to 150 food outlets for violations including cleanliness and improper handling of food items.
The officials inspected 1,430 outlets during August as part of a campaign to protect the public’s safety and comply with basic health regulations, reported local Arabic daily Al-Raya.
These latest closures are part of an ongoing effort by authorities to ensure restaurants and food establishments that flout safety and hygiene rules are dealt with harshly.
In February 2014, amendments were made to Qatar’s food law that gave authorities more power to punish venues that serve meals deemed unfit for human consumption.
