Mikel Landa returns to Vuelta a Burgos after claiming the overall last season, while Gino Mäder looks to stamp his GC credentials as he returns to stage racing ahead of La Vuelta.
A host of talent will support the GC contenders: young Colombian and Giro stage winner Santiago Buitrago, Ruta Del Sol winner Wout Poels, newly crowned Japanese National Champion Yukiya Arashiro, Hermann Pernsteiner and Matevz Govekar.
The five-stage race starts at the Burgos Cathedral across 810km and over 9,657 vertical metres before the finish in Lagunas de Neila.
Landa believes it will be a good test after a break from racing following his podium finish at the Giro d’Italia: “I’m here returning to racing in Burgos, and it’s going to be hard work. It’s been two months without racing, but Burgos is a good race to get back into things with the stages not being too long or hard.
“I’ve got very good memories from this race, and I’d like to be competitive. I’ve been struggling with a small injury, so my condition won’t be the best, but it’s going to be a good test.”
