SHAIKH Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa affirmed yesterday that the Kingdom of Bahrain is honoured to host the Middle East’s first Ironman 70.3 championship in December later this year.
This was stated while Shaikh Nasser received Ironman CEO Andrew Messick and Ironman Europe, Middle East and Africa CEO Thomas Dieckhoff.
Shaikh Nasser, who is the Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, discussed with them the final administrative and organising procedures of the championship.
Shaikh Nasser affirmed the importance of hosting the championship to Bahrain following the successful sports events that were organised here previously and to maintain the achievements attained by Bahrain Endurance Team and Bahrain Endurance 13 Elite Team in various international championships.
Shaikh Nasser asserted that the Bahrain has become a hub for hosting international sports events, reflecting the trust it gained from international sports federations and establishments.
Shaikh Nasser directed to step up the efforts to ensure the success of the championship and to avoid the negative events that accompanied the previous races. He confirmed that the championship is an opportunity to integrate Bahraini youth with international sports events.
On their part, Dieckhoff and Messick appreciated the support of Shaikh Nasser to triathlon and endurance sports. At the same time, they highlighted Bahrain’s achievements in the sport which nominates it to be the home of triathlon in the Middle East.
