BAHRAIN’S national volleyball youth team advanced to the tournament final in the first Nasser bin Hamad Ramadan Sports Games following a 3-0 (25-10, 25-18, 25-17) victory over Al Najma at the Bahrain Volleyball Association arena last night.
The nationals dominated the match from the beginning and gave their rivals no chance to fight back.
With this result, they became the first team to qualify for the title match. They will play against the winner of the other semi-final between Muharraq and Dar Kulaib in a match that was scheduled to be played late last night.
In the basketball tournament, Manama triumphed against Al Najma Club 92-88 in overtime.
Both teams were tied at 78-78 at the end of the fourth quarter, forcing the exra session.
Manama’s victory put them on top of Group A with three points, followed by Muharraq with two points and Al Najma who only have a single point.
Meanwhile, supported by Viva Bahrain, the football academies juniors’ tournament began yesterday with six exciting matches at the indoor court of Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.
In Group A, Al Najma beat Viva 2-0, while Kickoff won against Arsenal by a single goal. The final game in the group was held between Arsenal and Viva, ending with a 2-0 score for Arsenal.
Super won against the Royal Charity Organisation team 1-0 in the first match of Group B.
In the second match, Real Madrid and Discovery were tied to a 2-2 score, while Super beat Real Madrid 1-0 in the final game.
Following the directives of Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, the organising committee announced that preparations are ongoing for the final match festival, which will be held on Thursday at Khalifa Sports City.
On the occasion, Shaikh Nasser’s Media and Information Centre Head and Nasser 8 Supreme Organising Committee Chairman Tawfeeq Al Salehy confirmed the committee’s keenness on implementing the instructions of Shaikh Nasser and has taken the necessary arrangements to make the final match festival a successful one.
Viva Bahrain Government Affairs Director Shaikh Ziyad bin Faisal Al Khalifa confirmed that the company’s sponsorship of Nasser 8 football academies juniors’ tournament comes within its interest to support young players, who he said are the future of football sport in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Shaikh Ziyad praised Shaikh Nasser’s future vision for Bahraini football, focusing on highlighting new talents and developing them, in order to integrate them with local football clubs.
Shaikh Ziyad highlighted the prominence of Nasser 8, which has reached to commendable technical levels in the past seven years and became one of the major local sports events in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The supreme organising committee of Nasser 8 confirmed that cash prizes, which are sponsored by CrediMax, await the audience of all games of Nasser 8, adding that BD400 are allocated for eight lucky winners of the audience attending today’s basketball matches between Al Najma and Al Muharraq and VIP and Al Hala, taking place at Bahrain Basketball Association arena in Umm Al Hassam.
Each of the eight lucky spectators will receive BD50. The committee also confirmed that the same amount will be distributed among the audience of the football tournament’s semi-finals, while 10 spectators will win BD500 in the final matches of the championship.
