DISCIPLINARY action could be taken against football players involved in a mass brawl that led to the suspension of a pre-season tournament final.
An official from the Bahrain Football Association (BFA), who wished to remain anonymous, told the GDN that a disciplinary committee will meet in the coming days to determine a course of action.
The committee was yesterday still waiting for a report about the incident to be submitted by the referee, he added.
The football match between the youths of Malkiya Club and East Riffa Club on Monday night descended into chaos when players, club administrators and spectators got involved in a fist fight.
A player from East Riffa Club was reportedly injured in the incident, which occurred at an unsecured outdoor grounds behind the BFA’s headquarters in Riffa.
End
The score was 2-1 for Malkiya but the referee had to call off the match when the brawl got out of control.
“There was a minute or two remaining for the match to end and the referee had to end it after things got out of control without determining a winner,” said the official.
“The BFA’s disciplinary committee will determine action in general in addition to announcing the winner and taking punishments against those involved.
“We don’t need to have police presence in a pre-season match even if it is under our authority and organised by us unless it is within a stadium – in all cases that’s not the arrangement with the Interior Ministry.
“I have seen online reports about the injured player, but I didn’t see anyone stretchered or badly hurt, despite things getting out of hand.”
