Abu Dhabi: An Emirati goalkeeper who assaulted a professional striker has been handed the heaviest fine in the history of football in the United Arab Emirates.
The UAE Football Federation Discipline Committee suspended Emirates goalkeeper Ali Saqr for two matches and fined him AED300,000 for assaulting Al-Ain professional striker Colombian Danilo Asprilla.
The referee who officiated the match first showed him the red card after he hit his opponent who tried to dribble past him.
The goalkeeper, who lost his temper, then kicked the striker before players from both teams led him out of the pitch.
Al-Ain routed the Emirates Football Club 5-2 in the match which was played as part of the UAE professional football league.
