Doha: A new legislation regulating expatriate workers’ entries, exits and residence will be implemented starting December this year.
The law 21 of 2015, which was promulgated in the official gazette, is an amendment of the existing law No. 4 of 2009 regarding regulation of expatriates’ entry, departure, residence and sponsorship.
The ministries of Interior, Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs are legally mandated to regulate the entry, exit and residency of expatriates.
A two-month awareness-raising campaign will be launched this week to shed light on the new law that replaces the sponsorship system 'Kafala', which has been repealed.
The campaign which targets expatriate workers will focus on the exit mechanisms and regulations as well as the new contractual system.
Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs Dr. Isa bin Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi stressed keenness on enhancing foreign workers’ awareness regarding Qatari labour regulations and protecting their rights.
