DADABHAI Travel Bahrain won the recently concluded indoor hockey tournament at Al Nasr Leisureland in Dubai.
A total of 21 teams took part in the tournament. They were divided into four pools.
Dadabhai qualified for the quarter-final after beating Dubai Hockey Club ‘A’ 2-1, United Republicans 2-0 and Dubbal 3-0.
They lost their matches to Sharjah Road Masters 3-1 in a well-contested match and then to the group leaders Sky Net Cargo 2-1 after leading 1-0.
Dadabhai finished the preliminaries with nine points as second in group ‘D’ and, in the last eight, met Ravi UEHC who were the leaders in group B.
In an exciting match, the teams were tied 1-1 at the end of allotted time and Dadabhai won the tie breaker 3-2 to move into the semi-finals where they locked horns with King Khan Red.
The other teams in the last four were Lacnor and King Khan Yellow. In this phase, Dadabhai won their game comfortably 2-0 to move into the final against King Khan Yellow, who got the better of Lacnor.
In a fast-paced exciting final, Dadabhai took the lead within two minutes and then held on to capture the victory against their UAE-based rivals.
Dadabhai were comprised of Savio Nayak (Qatar), Juned Coutinho (Qatar), skipper Nitin Menon (Bahrain), Rubert Castellino (Bahrain), Rohit Charles (UAE), Ali Zaman (Saudi Arabia), Yashpal Rana (Saudi Arabia) and goalkeeper Sudhir Dixit (India).
Dadabhai plans to go for an invitational hockey tournament in Hong Kong and Bangkok at the end of the year and test their skills with teams coming from all over the world.
