The Indian Club will continue its active role in the development of badminton in Bahrain with the announcement of two new tournaments – the Indian Club Doubles Tournament and Bahrain Junior Badminton Open 2016, which it is organising in association with the Bahrain Badminton and Squash Federation.
Entries are now open for both tournaments, which will be played at the Indian Club from October 22 to 25. Entries close on October 18.
The Indian Club’s badminton section is the most active of the Club’s sporting events, with an active membership of approximately 150. The Indian Club Doubles Tournament will be a members only tournament, with doubles competitions in each of four categories; players can play in more than one category, with an entry fee of BD3 per player per event.
For the last month, the Indian Club has been instrumental in providing an Advanced Coaching Program from top Indonesian stars Senatria Putra and Aprilsasi Variella. The response, in particular from the junior players, has been fantastic and the Bahrain Junior Badminton Open 2016 will further boost the Club’s active support for badminton at the grassroots level.
Competitions
The Bahrain Junior Badminton Open 2016 will comprise singles competitions for both boys and girls at U10, U13, U16 and U19 levels. The tournament is open to participants from Bahrain and overseas, with a BD3 entry fee per player per event. Entries have already been confirmed for players from Dubai and India.
“The upcoming tournaments are a further exciting development for badminton at the Indian Club; we have been delighted with the response to the Advanced Coaching Program and are looking forward to expanding the Club’s support for the younger players across Bahrain with the introduction of the Bahrain Junior Badminton Open 2016. Practice and coaching is great, but there is no substitute for the experience of actual tournament play which the Club is providing more opportunity of with this new event,” said the Indian Club’s Badminton Secretary, Ricson Rebello.
