New Delhi: India is a developing country, but five of its billionaires have wealth that can beat the GDP of many countries around the world.
Sample this: Mukesh Ambani is India’s richest and with his wealth of $23.1 billion is ahead of the GDP of 19 countries. Among these countries are India’s neighbours – Nepal and Afghanistan. Others that have lost out to Ambani’s wealth include, Combodia, Iceland and Cyprus.
In fact, India’s second and third richest men, pharma tycoon Dilip Shanghvi and Wipro’s Azim Premji have fortunes that are more than the GDP of Zimbabwe. Both of them are ahead of nine countries.
Steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, with a net worth of $13.3 billion is ahead of Albania’s GDP, which is $12.1 billion.
