A Southwest Airlines pilot, flying to Sacramento from San Diego, was forced to squeeze himself through the cockpit window of a flight after getting locked out accidentally.
The incident, which happened on May 24, was captured by a passenger who claimed that the pilot was locked out after another passenger accidentally closed the flight deck door, which locked as designed.
Luckily, a ground crew member was available and managed to force the window open.
“It was all done incredibly efficiently,” Max Rexroad, a passenger, told Fox5SanDiego. He said that it only “took a matter of seconds before the window was open.”
Once inside the cockpit, the pilot was able to unlock the door and the flight was able to proceed. Despite the setback, the flight was only eight minutes late to departure.
Rexroad shared a picture of the minor fiasco on Twitter, where it soon went viral.
Southwest responded to the image saying, "Well that is definitely something you don’t see every day."
The airline also released a statement saying, ”As you see from the photo, one of our Pilots unlocked the door after entering the Flight Deck through a window [...]The flight departed as scheduled ahead of this busy weekend of summer travel in the U.S.”
