Londion: Robin van Persie’s agent has played down rumours about the Dutch footballer being on the verge of leaving Manchester United. Murmurs were that Van Persie had agreed to a four-year contract with Fenerbahce and that he was seeking a £12million payoff that would cover the remaining one year of his contract with United.
Van Persie’s representative, Kees Voss, told Voetbal International that, “If Robin had found a new club, we would have announced it. All I can say is that tomorrow [Monday], Robin will simply report at Manchester United for the first training session.”
Although he is staying at Old Trafford, the 31-year-old Holland striker still has concerns about Louis Van Gaal’s plans for him. He is expected to have talks with the manager to settle the situation.
Van Gaal’s plans will depend on whether United can sign another centre forward. If Van Persie is to be Manchester United’s third-choice striker, he will have to contemplate leaving the club as he wants to play regular first-team football in the run up to the Euro Cup in 2016.
