Abu Dhabi: A leading Emirati businesswoman died when fire gutted her house in Al-Qadissiya district, Sharjah.
Sharjah Businesswomen Council Chairperson Amira bin Karam, 38, her 57-year-old mother Badriya and sister Sama, aged 40, died of asphyxiation after inhaling thick smoke.
Their thirty-two-year-old brother Khalid survived and was taken to the Al-Qasimi hospital for treatment. Her father was not at home when the fire broke out.
A neighbour alerted the civil defence firefighting units which rushed to the scene and managed to contain the blaze before it could spread to the nearby buildings.
Sharjah Police Directorate launched an inquiry into the cause of the blaze, urging the public to refrain from circulating false news and photos and to wait till the investigation was complete.
