AN American film called Adaptation comes to the screen at Bahrain Cinema Club tonight at 7pm.
Based on The Orchid Thief, a non-fiction book by Susan Orlean’s, Adaptation stars Nicolas Cage as Charlie Kaufman, a confused Los Angeles screenwriter.
Kaufman is overwhelmed by feelings of inadequacy, sexual frustration, self-loathing, and by the screenwriting ambitions of his freeloading twin brother Donald.
While struggling to adapt The Orchid Thief, Kaufman’s life spins from pathetic to bizarre.
The lives of Kaufman and Ms Orlean’s book become strangely intertwined as each one’s search for passion collides with the others.
Directed by Spike Jonze, Adaptation was nominated for Best Film and Best Director at the Golden Globe Awards.
Chris Cooper won an Oscar and a Golden Globe and was nominated for a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor.
Nicolas Cage was nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Actor and Meryl Streep won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress.
