TWO Cup races in a card of seven are the highlights of today’s horse racing in Sakhir.
The race for the Stewards Cup for locally bred horses, which carries a cash prize of BD2,000 and to be run over 2,000 metres, starting at 4.30pm, has attracted five horses.
But Methary, owned by Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and to be ridden by Alberto Sanna, looks in best shape to win this race ahead of its nearest challengers Knight And Day and Khamila.
The day’s action kicks off at 2pm with the race for the Al Safra Cup for Arabian horses.
This race carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and will be run over 1,200 metres straight.
Of the three horses in the fray, Al Shuwaimeh 1645, owned by Al Shakir, trained by Andrew Elliott and to be ridden by Jaffar Marzooq, is the best bet to win this race while Krayaan 1646 and Al Jellaby 1544 are expected to give the favourite a run for its money.
Fern Ridge, owned by Hasan Awn Hasan Mubarak, trained by Mahmood Majeed and to be ridden by Yogeesen Mauree, is tipped to win the race for locally bred horses which carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 1,000 metres straight, starting at 2.25pm.
Silver Wood and The Tin Man are the second and third favourites respectively.
Imported
Rogue Wave, owned by Husain A Amir Husain Aljaboori, trained by Salah Mahdi and to be ridden by S Sanders, is the favourite to win the race for imported horses which carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be ridden by over 1,200 metres straight, starting at 2.50pm.
Saeedan and Scottish Storm are the second and third favourites respectively.
Tom Hark, owned by Al Nasseriyeh, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Brett Doyle, looks in best shape to win the race for imported horses which carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 1,600 metres, starting at 3.15pm.
Let Go Ego and Silversmith are the second and third favourites respectively.
The handicap race, which carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 1,400 metres, starting at 3.40pm, is expected to be won by Wayne Looney, owned by H and R Stables, trained by Alan Smith and to be ridden by Sadiq Hameed.
Shamikh and Tickity Boo are the second and third favourites respectively.
Sirheed, owned by Al-Afoo Racing Stable, trained by Mohammed Hasan and to be ridden by Alberto Sanna, is expected to win the other handicap race which also carries a cash prize of BD1,500 and to be run over 2,000 metres, starting at 4.05pm.
Fadhaa and Allergic Reaction are the second and third favourites respectively.
