Doha: Five Sri Lankans were each sentenced to a year in prison, for stealing jewellery worth QR2.2 million, in addition to cash, from a Qatari national’s house.
They were found guilty of intruding into a Qatari citizen’s house, breaking open a safe and stealing the jewellery before fleeing the crime scene.
The Criminal Court in Doha which convicted them of trespassing on private property and robbery, sentenced them to be deported from Qatar on serving their one-year jail term.
They confessed to breaking into the house at night, in the owner's absence, and stealing jewellery and cash from the safe.
