Riyadh: Thirteen Saudi women are facing trial for taking part in protests and chanting anti-regime slogans in the city of Buraidah.
They have been charged with burning the Saudi Interior Minister’s portraits and calling for the political regime to be toppled. The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution has asked the court to jail them and ban them from travelling abroad.
The defendants who were released pending trial did not attend the Criminal Court session, which was attended by four defence lawyers.
The women are also accused of disobeying the rulers, in response to foreign instigative calls seeking to fuel civil strife and destabilize the country.
