His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa welcomed international delegations arriving in the kingdom for the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship scheduled for Saturday under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.
Shaikh Nasser highlighted that the arrival of a large pool of world champions in Bahrain to take part in the championship gives it a big push, adding that the kingdom is proud to hold international events like Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship.
Shaikh Nasser called upon Bahraini athletes to take advantage of the experience of internationally acclaimed athletes.
“I am very happy at the number of Bahrainis registered for the event. This shows the level of reputation this sport has gained in a very short period. The Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship is an extroadinary large-scale sporting event and we are eagerly awaiting it,” Shaikh Nasser said.
“I am happy with the efforts of the organising committee members to make this event a resounding success.”
Meanwhile, Maryam Bu Kamal, presenter of Al Mala’ab Programme, affirmed that constant coverage has been given to the event, and an exclusive episode will be hosted next Saturday, featuring discussions and special reports.
The IRONKIDS and IronGirl which are to be held under the patronage of Shaikh Nasser’s children are witnessing a large turnout.
The event’s Media Committee head Tawfeeq Salehi met Bahrain Sports TV Channel head Fawaz Shamsan to discuss preparations to broadcast the event live.
Preparations are ongoing for the opening ceremony which will take place tomorrow night at Bahrain International Circuit.
