Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment has launched the 'open-air' cinema programme in a park (HawaScene) in a first of its kind initiative.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the progarmme, Mohammed Ali Al-Khouri, Director of Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment said the cinema programme is a new and distinctive initiative for public parks in the country.
Pointing to the existence of this experience in many countries of the world, he added that this programme is an effort to keep up with the latest global developments in this field.
He said that there will be a children's cinema for viewing awareness films, referring to the cooperation between the Ministry and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development to broadcast some films that foster the Arabic language.
Trial run of the HawaScene programme, which is expected to run until March, 2017, will be launched at the Dahl Al Hamad Park and in the event of success, the progamme will be held at other public parks.
The programme includes the screening of animation films from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday and Friday.
