Dubai: Two Emirati men have been fined AED10,000 each for defaming a couple who celebrated their marriage while riding their motorbikes in Abu Dhabi.
The Abu Dhabi court of misdemeanor convicted them of causing prejudice to the newly-married bride and groom and opposing their wedding, claiming that they flout social traditions.
The couple filed a case last March against the defendants who defamed them online and sued them under the federal law on cyber crimes.
The man and woman, who are members of the Emirates Riders biking community, rode their flower-decorated Harley-Davidson motorcycles, along with more than 60 Gulf and Arab bikers, in “a first” in the GCC countries.
Social media users then took to their accounts to criticise the wedding ceremony, which they found outrageous and defamed the newly-wed couple.
