The overall number of divorce cases among Qatari men soared by 71 per cent to top 807, up from 471 cases in 2000.
According to official figures released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, the cases of divorce cases among Qatari women also increased by a record 52% to stand at 706 in 2015, up from 446 cases seven years ago (2000).
The statistics which were unveiled by the ministry’s demographic Mohammed Ali Akbeer triggered questions about the causes underpinning the alarming increase in the rate of divorce among Qataris.
Experts and specialists outlined several causes underpinning divorce rates, citing in particular families’ interference, incompatibility among couples, failure to assume marriage duties and responsibilities, immaturity and psychological unpreparedness, and debts resulting from marriage costs.
