Muscat, Oman: A four year-old Saudi girl was injured in Musandam on Saturday. Bullets from celebratory gunfire, which came from a nearby wedding, landed on her head.
The girl, named Zainab, is in Sohar hospital, and she is in stable condition.
According to the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the girl was playing with her brother in the yard of the Diba hotel. The wedding was held approximately two kilometres away.
ROP arrested the man responsible for firing the weapon. Under Omani law, weapons are banned in public places, except for some light guns, and even then they have to obtain permission from the police.
Fines for firing weapons, in the air, without a proper licence are 200 rials. Firing weapons on Eid or wedding occasions is an extra 100 rials.
Last year, two Omanis were killed after they accidentally shot themselves with conventional guns.
In light of the events, the police have launched a campaign to register all unlicensed weapons and conventional guns.
