A series of short films documenting different types of artists from around the country are set to be unveiled in September.
Filming has already begun on Create Bahrain, which is a joint project from Malja Bahrain and JEO Productions that aims to highlight local talent and give an insight into their processes.
The finished product will be screened at Malja, Amwaj Islands where there will also be an awards ceremony honouring people’s favourite local artists.
“Create Bahrain is a video project where we will showcase in a series of short videos each artist, their craft, their finished works, plus interview them on what and who inspires them and motivates them to pursue their craft,” said JEO Productions vice-president and producer Josie Houpt.
“This video series will be showcased at Malja on September 10 at 7pm for everyone to come and get inspired, get moved, and create conversation between artists, friends and public.
“After the screening, we will release all videos on our YouTube page for artists to link and readily access their video for their promotional purposes.
“We are hoping for at least 10-15 artists to contact us in the hope to have a good selection of the many artistic offerings that can be found within Bahrain – the more the merrier.”
Ms Houpt said that the focus of the films was art in “whatever medium”.
“All artists are able to contact us,” she said.
“Painters, graffiti artists, musicians, dancers, sculptors, photographers, whoever considers themselves an artist in their field and has work to showcase and passion to share are welcome.
“Artist’s homes, venues where they are displaying their art will be featured in the films, and if they don’t have space, we will shoot them at Malja, a free space that is available for all artists.
“This project is to support local artists by giving their voice and creativity a video platform to showcase what they do and how much it drives them in their life.
“We hope that this project will assist in connecting artists, showcasing their work, and creating a larger community to inspire others to find their creative outlet and to see the power of art. The main criteria we have is that they have to have art to showcase.
“If they were just starting out it would be a very short video.
“We want to hear their stories of what inspires them, who are their mentors, why they chose to start to create.”
