BAHRAIN national athletic team won the gold medal in Public Gulf Cross Country Race (12kms) at the 27th GCC Cross Country Championships held in Sharjah.
The event was organised by the Arab Athletic Association.
The team of Zalalim Pasha, Hassan Shani, Almahjoob Darzi, Isac Courier, Evans and John Jebet topped the podium with 10 point while Oman were second with 43, Saudi third with 46, Kuwaiti fourth with 59 and the UAE fifth with 64 points.
The first four positions were taken by Bahraini runners with Shani finishing first in 38.02 minutes, Courier was second in 38.03, Evans third in 39.11 and Jebet fourth in 40.01 minutes.

First deputy president of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), president of West Asian Athletics Federation and Bahrain Athletics Association Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa congratulated His Majesty, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister on the occasion and thanked them for their support and encouragement.
Shaikh Khalid attributed the success to the planning of Bahrain Olympics Committee, headed by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs and chairman of SCYS.
Head of the Bahrain delegation Bader Nasser praised the achievement of the Bahraini athletes and their determination to prove their class at international level.
“This achievement comes at the beginning of 2017 which is very encouraging. It gives the athletes a big boost ahead of the World Cross Country Championships to be held late next month,” he added.
