BAHRAIN men’s golf team ended the first round of the 21st GCC Golf Championship and third ladies Golf Championship in first place at the Royal Club Golf Course yesterday.
Each participating country is represented by four players in the men’s team and three players in the women’s team.
Kuwait, who have been banned from taking part in any international sports event, played under the name of the General Secretariat.
In the men’s competition, Bahrain topped the team table with a total of 237 points, with Saudi Arabia coming second with 238. In third place was UAE with 247.
The competition also sees scores counted on a single player basis.
UAE’s Ahmed Sakek topped the single score tables with 76 points, with Bahrain’s Saqer Al Noami in second place with 77 points and Saudi’s Othman Al Mulla in third place with 78 points.
In the women’s team competition, the General Secretariat team finished in first place with 182 points. In second place came UAE with 186 while Qatar were third with 240 points.
The women’s single scoring saw Fadia Amady from the General Secretariat team finish on top with 90 points, while UAE’s Tara Al Marzooqi came in second with 92 points. Noor Al Dosery from the General Secretariat team was third.
The second round of the competition will take place today starting 8am.
