What were the organisers thinking on Friday when they sponsored their Mini Marathon? I am sure it was done with good intentions, presumably to raise money for charity, but at what cost?
What was the damage and cost to Bahrain’s economy with traffic gridlocked in both directions on Budaiya Highway?
What was the cost to shops and businesses which could not open because of the traffic jams? What was the cost to shops and businesses whose customers could not reach them?
What was the cost to the environment with hundreds of cars stationary with their engines running?
What was the health cost to the ‘runners’ in the middle of these elevated pollution levels?
What was the cost to the Bahrain government who supplied the policemen and their vehicles to control the traffic, having blocked off half the highway on both sides?
What was the cost to the person waiting for the ambulance which wasted many precious minutes trying to bypass cars and runners?
Sorry, but no amount of money raised for charity could possibly compensate for these costs. Bahrain’s traffic needs to be kept moving for the economy to survive .
