Qatar has toughened the law on protecting its people's privacy.
Lawbreakers convicted of encroaching on others’ personal life and infringing upon their privacy will be sentenced to two years in prison.
Under the amended penal code issued by the Qatari Amir Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, convicts would also be fined QR10,000.
The amended penal code forbids the opening of a letter or cable addressed to third party, listening in or eavesdropping on phone calls, recording or reporting private conversations using any device.
Anyone involved in taking photographs or video recordings of people in private places would also be jailed and fined.
The amended law prohibits taking photos or videos of people in public places for the purpose of defamation.
Taking photos or video recordings of accident casualties would also be punishable by the law.
