Los Angeles: Ben Affleck says he has recently completed treatment for alcohol addiction.
The actor and director said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that it's the first of many steps toward a positive recovery.
In the statement, the two-time Oscar winner said, "I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront."
Ben's own father Timothy struggled with addiction and split from Affleck's mother Chris when the actor was 12.
"It was difficult,' he recalled in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2012. When one's parent is an alcoholic, it's hard. It was a little scary and trying, but then he got sober when I was twenty-something, and he's been sober ever since."
Affleck previously entered rehab for alcohol addiction in 2001, four years after he and Damon had exploded onto the Hollywood scene thanks to 'Good Will Hunting', which earned them each a screenwriting Academy Award.
"I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
"It was more a 'let me get myself straight,' before it became a rite of passage," he explained.
Recently, he has stepped away from directing 'The Batman' after almost a year in the job. He'll still star in the film as the titular crusader.
