The Fourth Mini Olympics was officially declared open yesterday with a spectacular opening ceremony at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association gym in Riffa.
The Mini Olympics is being organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
His Majesty’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa inaugurated the opening ceremony.
The event concludes on March 30.
Other high-ranking officials present at the ceremony included Education Minister Dr Majid bin Ali Al Nuaimi and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports deputy general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar.
Students from government and private schools are competing in 14 disciplines – football, 3-on-3 basketball, volleyball, handball. table tennis, athletics, cricket, hockey, swimming, water sports, gymnastics, taekwondo, jiu jitsu and karting.
Meanwhile, Indian School ‘A’ beat New Millennium School by 36 runs on the first day of the cricket tournament.

In other matches, Combined School ‘B’ got a walkover from New Millennium School ‘B’, Ibn Al Haytham Islamic School beat Indian School ‘B’ by 26 runs, Combined School ‘A’ beat St Christopher’s School by 45 runs and Indian School beat Combined School by seven wickets.
Table tennis, 3x3 basketball and karting events also got underway yesterday with Al Noor International School scoring a 12-2 win over Indian School ‘D’ in basketball.
In table tennis, Susan Nayana and Amil Amruta reached the primary stage girls final while Angadpreet Singh will clash with Sakeeth in the primary stage boys final.
