THE Bahrain tennis team will use their participation in the Bahrain ITF Futures Championship to prepare for the upcoming Davis Cup to be hosted by Bahrain Tennis Federation from April 2 to 8 at Bahrain Polytechnic Courts in Isa Town, reports MAZIN RIZK.
The Bahrain ITF Futures Championship will be held at Bahrain Tennis Club in Juffair from Monday to next Saturday.
It is being organised under the patronage of Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
BTC chairman Khamis Muqla has thanked Shaikh Nasser for patronising the event since it was first held in 2012.
National team coach Essa Abdulaal’s team consists of Yousef Qaed, Abdulkarim Abdulredha, Hassan Abdulredha and Elyas Abdulredha.
Different
The team are having two practice sessions daily.
“Each tournament we participate in is different than the other. The Bahrain ITF Futures Championship will see over 105 players from 50 different countries and this will allow our players to test their skill at a higher level,” said coach Abdulaal.
Abdulaal added that the main purpose of the training sessions where to lift the player’s fitness levels and concentrate on specific technical points.
Bahrain will be hosting the Asia-Oceania Zone Group Four of the Davis Cup. Other confirmed teams include Bangladesh, Cambodia, Iraq, Kyrgystan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Tajikistan.
The teams will be divided into two groups with the top teams from each group facing the runners-up of the other group to decide the two nations that will be promoted to Asia-Oceania Zone Group Two.
