UNDER the chairmanship of president of the Automobile and Touring Club of Emirates Mohammed bin Sulayem, the GCC Motor and Motorcycle Organising Committee have announced the launch of the first GCC rally - The Gulf Challenge, reports MAZIN RIZK.
The Gulf Challenge will have five rounds with the first in Muscat on September 7 and 8. The second round will be held on October 5 and 6 in the UAE, the third in Kuwait on October 26 and 27, fourth in Saudi Arabia on November 9 and 10 with the last round in Qatar on December 7 and 8.
Bahrain is also expected to host a round of the rally on a date yet to be decided.
A meeting, hosted by Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF) and attended by representatives of GCC countries and the general secretariat, was held before the launch.
Selections of minor committees were announced after the meeting with board member of Saudi Motor and Motorcycle Federation Abdulla Bakhshib heading the Gulf Challenge committee.
President of BMF and International Karting Commission (IKC) Shaikh Abdulla bin Essa Al Khalifa will head the Karting Committee while Emirati Ateeq Hassan was named general secretary since the headquarters would be in the UAE.
Bahrain will host the only round of the GCC Karting championship at Bahrain International Karting Circuit in November.
The second edition will be held next year at the Muscat Speed Race Way Circuit.
