Two Emirati nationals were caught racing at a stunning speed of 282 kilometres per hour, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
The duo were referred to the judiciary for driving recklessly and performing dangerous stunts on Nahel Highway in Al-Ain, said Main Roads Department chief Lieutenant-Colonel Salah Abdulla Al Hamiri.
The drivers, who paid no heed to road users’ safety, posted pictures and videos of their racing and stunts on social media.
The traffic police confiscated their cars for committing serious violations.
They also face charges of unauthorised modifications to increase their cars’ speed.
In a second case, traffic police referred to the public prosecution a citizen on charges of stunt driving, which caused his car to swerve and overturn.
Another man who helped him restore the car to its normal position without reporting the accident is also facing trial.
