ST Christopher’s School emerged overall champions in the 2017 Mini Olympics which concluded yesterday.
The event was organised by Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.
St Christopher’s students won 30 gold, 21 silver and 19 bronze for a grand total of 70 medals, finishing well ahead of second-placed Kanoo International (12, 9, 6) and third-placed Al Noor International (11, 9, 11).
Indian School were fourth overall, British School fifth, East Riffa Boys School sixth, Sacred Heart seventh, AMA International eighth, Hawar International ninth and Al Mahd tenth.
St Christopher’s won two gold, two silver and two bronze in the hockey championships staged at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association hall in Riffa.
Nine teams competed in three different categories. In the under-15 boys event, St Christopher’s ‘C’ team won the gold topping the round robin event with 15 points from six matches.
The other two events were an under-15 girls tournament and an under-11 mix competition. St Christopher’s ‘A’ were second with 10 points while St Christopher’s ‘B’ third with one point.
In the under-15 girls section, St Christopher’s ‘A’ team secured the gold with 13 points, beating St Christopher’s ‘B (8 points) and St Christopher’s ‘C’ (4).
The under-11 mix tournament was won by A – Oryx with 13 points from six games. Behind them were B – Eagles (11) and BH Comb (1).
Dominated
On the concluding day of athletics events, St Christopher’s dominated the girls events winning most of the disciplines in both the intermediate and secondary stages.
The curtain came down on the Mini Olympics yesterday with a simple yet expressive closing ceremony at Isa Sports City’s Bahrain Volleyball Association hall in Riffa.
