The Royal Golf Club held its own version of Masters week with two golf events over the last weekend.
On Thursday evening a 9 hole par 3 event was won by Jason McNamara on count back with a gross score of 28. Ben Elsworth was runner-up, also with 28. Over 40 people competed in the competition which was followed by a roof-top nearest the pin challenge which saw golfers hitting golf balls off the terrace of Links restaurant onto the 18th green. The fun contest was won by Ladies Captain Stacey Thomas.
On Saturday, golfers each picked the name of a real competitor playing in the Masters at Augusta and following an 18 hole stableford competition, their scores were combined with that of their 'partner’s' third round score. Sanjay Lal, who picked Pat Perez from the hat won the tournament with 77 points. Ronan Smith, who was partnered up with James Hahn, was runner-up with 74 points while Jason McNamara and his “partner” Kevin Chappell came third, also with 74 points.
Winner Sanjay Lal will be presented with his very own Masters green jacket at the Club’s second quarterly presentation evening towards the end of June.
