An African housemaid was killed in a kitchen gas explosion in the emirate of Ajman, according to Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
The blast left three other maids critically injured, said Ajman acting civil defence director-general Brigadier Rashid Al Shamsi.
The explosion gutted the kitchen and another room and smashed the external windowpanes of the villa in Al Jarf district.
The body of the 47-year-old Ethiopian woman was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
She was already dead when the civil defence rescue units pulled her from under the rubble.
The three other maids – two Ethiopians and an Indonesian - sustained severe burns due to the blaze resulting from the gas explosion.
They were taken to Shaikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman for medical treatment.
