Canary Islands-based media has highlighted the record set by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in Challenge Mogan-Gran Canaria which featured over 500 athletes from across the world.
The Spanish media headlined Shaikh Nasser’s remarks after the race, when he said: “I will be back to the Canary Islands next year.”
Shaikh Nasser, who finished third, set a new personal record in triathlon competitions after posting a time of 04:57 minutes in Challenge Mogan-Gran Canaria.
Organised by Challenge Company, the event featured an elite group of 500 athletes, and Shaikh Nasser spearheaded the Bahrain national triathlon team.
Shaikh Nasser, who completed the 113km-event in 04:57 minutes, said it was a very tightly contested competition. He told the Spanish media that he would come to compete in next year’s competition on the Islands. The Spanish media wrote that “Shaikh Nasser had managed to achieve the goal he set for himself which was to complete the event under the five-hour-mark. He then lay on the red rug allotted for the winners to catch his breath before he underwent routine medical check-up, after which he smiled to the attendees and spectators.”
The Spanish media carried details of Shaikh Nasser’s post-race actions, describing how he sat in one of the tents set up near the finish line for drinks in front of the cameramen. Shaikh Nasser later met Spain’s Minister of Sports Angel Victor Torres.
The Spanish media said that Shaikh Nasser’s participation in Challenge Mogan-Gran Canaria was the second in Spain as he had competed two years ago in a championship held in Mallorca.
