The overall number of vehicles topped 1.38 million late last March in Oman, according to omandaily.om.
The authorities have registered 18,797 new vehicles of different types since last January – of which 13,751 are privately-owned.
According to figures released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of newly-registered private vehicles dropped by 23.4 per cent over the first quarter, compared with the same period last year.
The number of new commercial vehicles dropped by 38.4 per cent last March to 3,596.
The authorities surveyed 99 newly-registered taxis by late March, dropping by 33.1 per cent compared with the first quarter of 2016.
