Qatar plans to provide expatriate labourers with free internet in their labour camps by late 2018.
The Ministry of Transportation unveiled the free-internet package during the 4th edition of the annual Labour Welfare Conference which is held to mark International Workers’ Day.
“We will equip 1500 IT and telecommunication rooms with 15,000 computers inside labour camps”, said digital community department official Amina Al-Mulla.
Under the scheme, computers donated by government departments and private companies would be upgraded and installed at the labour camp IT rooms.
Volunteers would be engaged to help train expatriate workers on using the new technology, using their mother tongue for easy comprehension.
