PAKISTAN captain Misbah-ul-Haq and former Indian star Irfan Pathan are to lead two international teams in a showdown as part of Bahrain Cricket Festival to be held on May 19 at Bahrain National Stadium.
Other former stars expected to play in the match include, Shahid Afridi, Sohail Tanvir, Abdul Razzaq and Imran Nazir of Pakistan, India’s Shanthakumaran Sreesanth (presently banned by the Indian cricket board on allegations of match-fixing) and former master blaster Virendra Sehwag, who is presently part of a franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League.
Former Sri Lanka captain Tillakaratne Dilshan and Marlon Samuels of the West Indies are the other stars expected to take part in the festival match, according to a report last night on the Geo TV website.
“Event organiser Fahad Sadeq informed that the Bahrain cricket festival has been planned under the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in collaboration with the Bahrain Cricket Academy,” the report added.
Misbah is presently leading the Pakistan Test team in a three-match series in the West Indies with the third Test scheduled to be held in Roseau from Wednesday to next Sunday.
The series is presently tied 1-1 with Pakistan having won the first Test by seven wickets in Kingston and West Indies the second by 106 runs in Bridgetown.
Interestingly, Misbah, who is to retire at the end of the Test series, remained unbeaten on 99 in the first innings of the first Test and was dismissed for 99 in the first innings of the second of his farewell series.
