THE Bahrain table tennis team members were given a hero’s welcome on their arrival from Sharjah after claiming eight medals in the GCC Table Tennis Championship in Sharjah.
Ebrahim Habib and Salman Mohammed clinched gold in the under-14 doubles.
Rashid Sanad claimed the under-18 singles silver while the team of Anwar Makki, Mohamed Abbas, Mohammed Bushlaibi and Elyas Elyasi bagged the senior team event silver.
Bahrain notched another silver through Rashid Sanad, Hussain Al Ajmi, Murtada Hussain, Sayed Ali Mahmood and Saud Al Qassmi in the under-18 section while Murtada and Sayed Ali added the under-18 doubles silver and Abbas and Elyasi claimed bronze in the senior doubles.
Murtada sealed his third medal, another bronze, in the under-18 singles and Abbas followed suit in the senior singles.
Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, Bahrain Table Tennis Association president Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and other high-ranking sports officials welcomed the team home.
Askar dedicated the medals to His Majesty the King’s Advisor for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa for his support and encouragement.
