The first robot officer will start patrolling round Dubai within two days.
The Dubai Police smart services department have launched the first phase in operating the first real-life robocop.
The robocop is equipped with touchscreens and hi-tech cameras which are able to detect humans and the movement of objects. It can even salute people, shake hands and identify faces.
“The robot officer incorporates cutting edged digital technology to identify suspects and criminals in record time”, said smart services director general Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al-Razzouqi.
The 170-centimetre-tall robot which weighs 100 kilogrammes has the capacity to recognize body gestures and hand movements and detect the signs of happiness and sadness on people’s faces.
Dubai Police displayed the robocop prototype at the Gulf Information Security Expo and Conference (GISEC) which was opened by Dubai Police and Public Security Deputy Chief Lieutenant-General Dhahi Tamim Khalfan under the theme “Security Innovation for a Connected Future”.
The humanoid will first conduct patrols round the (GISEC) venue before engaging in real-life tours in Dubai to “combat crime, maintain security and boost people’s happiness”.
