Food consumption soars by up to 40 per cent in Kuwait during the holy month of Ramadan, as shopping changes people’s eating habits, according to Al Qabas newspaper.
According to statistics compiled from different shopping outlets, each Kuwaiti family spends KD1500 to 2500 more during the month of fasting as people go on a shopping spree.
Meanwhile, resident families fasting during Ramadan in Kuwait increase their spending by less than half the usual monthly spending average.
“Consumption of food and other commodities exceed KD500 million for Kuwaiti nationals during Ramadan,” said a report published in Al Qabas.
Citing Ramadan-related statistics, the Kuwaiti daily said that expatriates increase their spending by KD250 million during the month of fasting, compared with the monthly average.
