Book: The Perfect Stranger
Author: Megan Miranda
An engrossing read, The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda, tells the story of a failing journalist who sets out to find a missing friend, who may never have actually existed.
It’s an intriguing book that looks into when your best friend becomes your worst nightmare and this coupled with the plot twists makes for an exciting book.
Main protagonist Leah Stevens runs into an old friend, Emmy Grey, at the perfect time – her career as a journalist has taken a nosedive and Ms Grey wants to get away from a toxic relationship.
The pair moves to rural Pennsylvania, where they can both start over and due to their schedules they don’t see much of each other.
With no mobile phone Emmy is unreachable and when Leah realises her notes have not moved and she hasn’t seen her friend for days, a series of events begin to unfold that throw the journalist’s life into turmoil.
No spoilers here, but this is a great page-turner that features suspense, mystery and tense moments that catapult the reader into the life of the main protagonist.
Ms Miranda delivers a storyline with plenty of back and forth, leaving you thinking you have figured it out before she places you back in the dark.
This author has an easy flow to her writing style which makes this a very fast read and I really like how Ms Miranda implements the first person voice of Leah to tell the story.
There is a lot going on throughout this book with some very tangled storylines, so there are some that may be put off by that and the ending was a little abrupt but apart from that I enjoyed it.
