Doctors have removed a tumour weighing 18kg from the right thigh of an elderly Kuwaiti woman.
A medical team led by tumour chief surgeon Dr. Medhat Ateefa conducted the two-hour operation on the 65-year old patient at Kuwait Oncology Centre.
“The massive tumour was removed successfully without harming the arteries and veins which feed the right thigh”, he said, adding that the patient, who is in good health, would be kept under observation until her wounds heal.
Dr. Ateefa also stressed the importance of early detection which reduces cancer-related deaths by up to 65%.
