Saudi King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Saud issued a royal order to rename the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution as Public Prosecution.
Under the move the Public Prosecution would be affiliated directly with the Saudi King and enjoy full autonomy.
The royal move aims at reforming the judicial system which will be fully independent from the executive branch of government.
The current Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution President Shaikh Mohammed bin Fahd bin Abdulrahman Al-Abdalla Al-Arini has been relieved of his duties and replaced by Shaikh Saud bin Abdulla bin Mubarak Al-Mujab, who will hold the title of Public Prosecutor with the rank of minister.
The Saudi monarch has also issued a royal order promoting Major-General Saud bin Abdul-Aziz Helal to the rank of Lieutenant-General and appointing him as Public Security director, taking over from Lieutenant-General Othman bin Nasser who retired.
